A Share Certificate is a “Security”. The real title of the Istanbul Stock Exchange is “Istanbul Stock Exchange”. I wonder what is a “security”?
According to the Capital Markets Law, “Securities” are as follows
- Share certificates and temporary certificates
-Bond - Beneficial interest
- Profit and loss sharing certificates
- Treasury bills, bonds and bills of the government and other public institutions – Mortgaged debt and revenue securities issued in series and with a maturity of 2 years or more The characteristics of “securities” are listed as follows:
- They are legally negotiable instruments.
- They are securities with standard and round amounts, in duplicate, and have certain formal conditions.
- Mass securities issued in large numbers and offered to the public.
- They are more or less continuous and represent receivables or partnership interests.
- Provides periodic income.
- Each has a nominal value and a market value, which is determined by the supply and demand in the market. Since bonds are paid by the issuing entity at their nominal value at maturity, their market value is usually not much above or below their nominal value.
- Securities may be registered and bearer securities. Bearer securities are like money, it is considered the property of whoever has it, only upon delivery changes the owner. Endorsement in registered securities line, where the endorsement transaction is recorded.
